Wildfire Risk
The likelihood and potential severity of wildfire in a given area, driven by fuel, weather, topography and ignition sources, and amplified by climate change.
Definition
Wildfire risk combines the probability of fire ignition and spread with the exposure and vulnerability of people, assets and ecosystems. Fire weather indices such as the Canadian Forest Fire Weather Index integrate temperature, humidity, wind and precipitation to rate danger; longer fire seasons and extreme fire weather are linked to climate change.
