Water quality describes the characteristics of a water body or supply — including parameters such as pH, dissolved oxygen, turbidity, nutrients, pathogens, metals and organic contaminants — measured against criteria set for particular uses. Quality determines fitness for drinking, irrigation, aquatic life and recreation.
