Transformation Pathway

The described route from the current system to a sustainable end state — the spine of scenarios, roadmaps and transition plans.

Established · Editorial draft

Definition

A transformation pathway is a structured description of how a system — national economy, sector, company — moves from its current state to a defined sustainable end state: the sequence of milestones, investments, policy changes and phase-outs required, within what timeframes, with what dependencies. Pathways range from IPCC and IEA scenario trajectories to national long-term strategies (LT-LEDS under the Paris Agreement) and company transition plans; credible ones specify actions and intermediate targets, not just destinations.
