Supplier-Specific Method (Scope 3)
The Scope 3 method using actual emissions data from a company's own suppliers — the accuracy standard the GHG Protocol prefers.
Definition
The supplier-specific method calculates Scope 3 emissions from cradle-to-gate inventory data collected directly from individual suppliers for the specific goods and services purchased — actual product footprints rather than sector averages. The GHG Protocol ranks it the most accurate estimation method for purchased goods and services, capturing genuine differences between suppliers and rewarding buyers that switch to lower-carbon ones.
