Solar Farm

A large ground-mounted photovoltaic installation feeding power to the grid — raising land-use and biodiversity questions alongside clean generation.

Established · Editorial draft

Definition

A solar farm is a utility-scale ground-mounted photovoltaic installation, typically from a few megawatts to multi-gigawatt parks, delivering power directly to the grid under long-term contracts or merchant operation. Solar farms are the cheapest form of new electricity in many markets; their sustainability questions centre on land take (competition with agriculture and habitat), landscape impact, end-of-life panel management and, increasingly, design for co-benefits.
