Solar Cooker
A device that cooks food using only sunlight — a zero-fuel answer to firewood dependence and household air pollution.
Definition
A solar cooker concentrates or traps sunlight to generate cooking temperatures without fuel, in three main designs: box cookers (greenhouse-effect ovens), panel cookers (reflective panels with a cooking pot), and parabolic concentrators. In regions dependent on firewood and charcoal, solar cookers reduce fuel costs, deforestation pressure, time spent collecting wood — predominantly by women and girls — and exposure to household air pollution, which causes millions of premature deaths annually.
