Social Sustainability
Social Justice
The fair distribution of rights, opportunities and resources within a society — the normative foundation of the sustainability agenda's social pillar.
Definition
Social justice is the principle that all members of a society are entitled to fair access to rights, opportunities, resources and protection, and that institutions should correct, not compound, advantage and disadvantage. In sustainability discourse it connects distributive justice (who gets what), procedural justice (who decides) and recognition justice (whose dignity and identity are respected), and underlies concepts from environmental justice to just transition.
