Site-level environmental screening is a structured preliminary assessment used to identify the environmental features, pressures, dependencies, affected receptors and legal or community context associated with a specific asset, operation or sourcing location.
Overview
What it means in practice
Screening may consider protected areas, water stress, habitat condition, pollution pathways, ecosystem services, cumulative pressure and nearby communities. It identifies where deeper assessment is needed.
Why it matters
Company-wide averages cannot reveal whether an operation sits beside a critical habitat, stressed watershed or community already carrying cumulative impacts.
Boundary note
Screening is not a substitute for a full environmental or human-rights impact assessment. It is an early prioritisation step that should trigger proportionate follow-up.
