The preparatory phase in which countries build the strategies, baselines, safeguards and monitoring systems needed to participate in REDD+.
Definition
REDD readiness is the preparatory phase of REDD+ implementation, in which countries develop national strategies, reference emission levels, forest monitoring systems, safeguard information systems and benefit-sharing arrangements needed to qualify for results-based payments. The World Bank's Forest Carbon Partnership Facility Readiness Fund has been the principal support mechanism, alongside UN-REDD technical assistance.
