Definition
Progressive rehabilitation is the practice of restoring disturbed land — reshaping, topsoiling, revegetating — during the operating life of a mine or quarry, in areas where extraction has finished, rather than deferring all rehabilitation to closure. It is required or strongly encouraged under mining regulation in jurisdictions such as Queensland and Western Australia.
