Definition

Preparedness is the state of readiness built in advance of disasters — encompassing early warning systems, contingency plans, emergency drills, stockpiles, evacuation arrangements and trained responders — enabling effective anticipation of, response to and recovery from hazards. Under the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015–2030, preparedness is one of four priorities for action.
